Forearm muscle. Computer artwork of an anterior view of a human arm, showing the flexor pollicis longus muscle (red) of the forearm and its attachments to the bones of the arm, wrist and hand. This muscle originates from the radius (one of the lower arm bones) and ends in a tendon (white) that passes through the carpal tunnel of the wrist and attaches to the final (distal) phalanx of the thumb. This muscle is used to flex (bend) the thumb. Like other tendons passing through the carpal tunnel, this one can be affected by carpal tunnel syndrome. Also shown are bones and cartilage of the arm, including the elbow and shoulder joints.
