The Shindagha Waterfront, on the northern side of Dubai Creek, is one of the most historic areas in the city of Dubai. With origins in the 1860's, It gained importance when the ruling family relocated here in the late 19th century. This old district has been under restoration since 1996 and many of the gorgeous residences and mosques sparkle with renewed splendour. A paved walkway dotted with restaurants and museums parallels the waterfront, making it very popular with locals. Highlights include the Sheikh Saeed Al-Maktoum House, the former home of Dubai's ruling Maktoum Dynasty, and the Heritage and Diving Village, a recreation of the fishing village that once stood in the area.
