This col-or scheme being carried out in the hoses, there is little dangerof wrong connections and accidental explosions. \\hile not intended to be abused, torches are often sub-jected to rough usage either through accident or careless- ness. The torches, illustrated, are of rugged constructionand the tips, being internally threaded, are protected againstdamage. The heads and valve bodies are made of dropforged bronze to insure durability, the gas head tubes be-ing of seamless drawn brass, which is difficult to on which there is a considerable amount of wear aremade of phosphorous brass. Low cost of maintenance is secured by making the torchesof interchangeable parts, assembled with mechanical metalto metal joints. There are no brass, soldered or weldedjoints to be made. Referring to the view showing a cross Taper Bmmc ferru/j jii>w^/V-.^ ^. ? ■^ j-» fl! ^9L^^:- .1. Cross Section of Torcli Head section of the torch head, it will be evident that the gas headtubes are tightened in the valve body by taper bronze fer-rules forced tightly about the tubes by the hexagon headnuts. The torches can be completely disassembled by theoperator and then reassembled without difficulty; hence, adamaged part does not necessitate factory repairs or scrap-ping. Economy of gas consumption can lie secured only by es-tablishing and maintaining a true neutral tiame. Eitheran oxidizing or carbonizing flame indicates an excess of freeoxygen or acetylene, respectively, damaging the quality ofthe welds and causing uneconomical torch welds. Completemixing is accomplished in these torches by forcing the oxy-gen and acetylene together at equal pressures, passing themixture through a restricted conical orifice which sets up aturl^ulent effect in the stream of gas and at the same timecreating a velocity which prohibits back flash.
