Gabriel Richard became parishpriest of Detroit, of which he was for many years the accom-pHshed spiritual guide. He employeda chanter who was also to train the altar boys. Rev. joined him at Detroit in 1804 and opened a classicalschool, taking charge of the more remote missions. He had labored earnestly at Raisin River, endeavoring toexcite his flock to replace their crumbling church by a suitableedifice, but though meetings were held and promises made,nothing was done, and even the contributions pledged forhis support were not paid.
