Aortic stent graft, coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) angiograms. Heart and surrounding blood vessels of a 57-year-old patient with arterial hypert

Aortic stent graft, coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) angiograms. Heart and surrounding blood vessels of a 57-year-old patient with arterial hypertension (high blood pressure), showing the position of a stent graft (white mesh) used to treat an aneurysm (ballooning) of the descending thoracic aorta. Stents are wire mesh tubes that are used to treat stenosis (narrowing) of passageways within the body. Stent grafts are composed of a special fabric supported by a rigid structure. They are used to provide support and to reinforce blood vessels walls - here, to prevent the aneurysm from bursting causing a life-threatening haemorrhage (bleed).
