During the distilling of lavandin, samples are taken to assess the oil content during the process. The condensed steam is laden with molecules of oil in suspension that rise to the surface in the bottle and form a distinct clear layer at the top. The water beneath still contains some oil that, given time will rise to the surface. The essential oil will be added to products like cosmetics, washing powder, candles, soap, and various cleaners. Provence, France.
