A new system of organization for track forces has been introduced onthe Ohio River Ry. by Mr. C. E. Bryan, the Superintendent of Maintenanceof Way and Structures. On each division there is a supervisor in chargeof all the forces, and the sections have been changed from 7 to 8 miles, andthe gangs reduced from a foreman and 6 men to a foreman and 3 divisions are also divided into 30-mile sections, each with a floatinggang consisting of a foreman, 20 men and a cook. The gang has a camptrain of four box cars and a flat car for boarding and sleeping accommo-dation and supplies. The small section gangs go over their sections daily(the trackwalker being done away with); they inspect the track, makesmall repairs to track and fences, keep station grounds neat, etc. Thelarger gangs do such work as ballasting, renewing ties and rails, widen-ing banks, ditching, etc. It is contended that the daily inspection will bebetter, as it is under the eye of the foreman and repa
