A look down the items columnwill show in a moment how great is the differ-ence between then and now. Our friends willperceive that, with the exception of Orangesand-Lemons, no other fresh fruit is , or, rather, in 1896, we imported forhome consumption, fruit to the value of£2,170,394. We grow the counterpart of allat home; but what is imported, exceptingCanadian, is what may be termed earlyfruit. Of vegetables of all the sortsgrown at home, we imported duringtwelve months to the extent of £2,874, these figures there is something reallymagnificent, looking at the totals.
