Supercomputer simulation of electron distribution in a single molecule of Buckminsterfullerene (C60) at 1000 K. The colours grey, green & orange denote regions of increasingly greater electron density. In background, the atomic structure appears as 5- and 6- membered carbon rings arranged in the shape of a soccer ball. C60 was first postulated by Kroto et al in 1985.
