Hedied on the 1st of May, 1818. The exterior of the east end of the church, as representedon the following page, stands in Thames Street. It appearsto be the only remaining portion of Wrens design ; andeven if this had been destroyed, the great masters reputationwould have lost nothing. The broken pediment in thecentre, a form much used during Wrens time, is nowjustly repudiated, as contrary to reason, and therefore offen-sive to good taste. ST.
