Paintings are housed in the shelters at Heemskerk; Unloading paintings at Kelder works are supported the bunker. The bomb-free cellars were built in 1940 after the shelters in North Holland villages were not safe. The collection components of the museum were evacuated in 1939. The new cellars were put into use in 1941.
