Infant feeder (left) and invalid feeder (right). Both are made from pewter and date from around 1850, England. These would be filled with softened food or 'pap' (usually a combination of milk, bread, flour and sugar). The teat or spout would be placed in the mouth of the infant or invalid, through which they could suck the food.
