A rectangular coal bin, having a capacity of 600 tons, extends the full length ofthe space occupied by the boilers. This bin is constructedof plate girder sides and I-beam floor, lined throughoutwith concrete. A coal gate is placed directly in front ofeach boiler and the coal is delivered to the boiler roomfloor by a traveling weighing hopper. Clearfield coal is delivered to the building over a siding. THE SWITCHBOARD from the Pennsylvania Railroad running between the rearwall of the building and the chimney. Near the center ofthe building and under the track is a hopper which receivesthe coal as it is dumped from the cars. The coal passesto a crusher and thence to the boot of a vertical chainand bucket elevator. This latter delivers the coal to ascrew conveyor in the roof of the building from whichit is distributed to the coal bin previously mentioned. Ashes drop from the hand-fired shaking grates to pitsfrom which they are removed in a steel dump car and de-livered to the elevator boot mentioned. The . ashes arethen elevated to a bin located in the roof of the buildingadjacent to the elevator, the bin having a capacity of aboutone carload. The proximity of the elevator and the binobviates the necessity of handling the ashes by the screwconveyor, and the ashes are removed to the outside of thebuilding by means of a gate and chute.
