Annette Island.; Scope and content: The shore of Annette Island cleared as a landing place for William Duncan's Mission in 1887. It was at this very place that the first flagstaff was raised on the island and where the Honourable Dawson, commissioner of education, hoisted the United States flag for the protection of Father Duncan and his Metlakahtla colony, to whom he extended cordial greetings.
