Turtle Reproduce
Male turtles attract females with a combination of sounds and movements particular to each species. Some common rituals are head bobbing, dancing and making clucking noises. Once two turtles decide to partner, which can happen in a matter of minutes, the actual mating begins. The male turtle mounts the female, getting on top of her shell from behind her. He may grab on to her shell with his claws, twist his tail around hers and even bite her head. What matters is that their tails meet. The male deposits sperm from his penis, which is located in his tail, into the female's "cloaca," a small opening in her tail. Males have been known to stay on top of the females for as long as an hour.
