Iberian iron smelting. Artwork of men mining (upper right), firing (centre), processing (lower right), and smelting (lower left) iron ore during the Iberian period. The smelting and use of iron was an important innovation. The Iberians were a grouping of pre-Roman Iron Age peoples living in the eastern and southern regions of the Iberian peninsula. It is thought that they arrived in the area in the Neolithic period, from around 5000 BC.
