The eggs of this iiisect hatch in fourteen days, the firsL moult occnrs in about four days, the next three in about six days each, Ihe last moult in ten days; from hatching to adult occupies about thii'ty-two days, and from egg to adult forty-six. The ahmentary canal bas certain peculiarities both in Ihe earliest nymphal instar and ailult which resemble those described by varions authors as occarring in Psyllidœ (Packard, Textbook of Entomology, p. 320, 1903), Cicadidœ, Cercopidœ and Coccidœ. The basai portion of the œsopbagus joins the crop on the right-hand side and some- what poslerior to the snmmit, instead of joining the crop ante- riorly in the usual way. The exterior basement - membrane (^;n, )and external muscles of ihe anteri'Or end of the crop aud base of the œsophagus (oe) separate from the epithelial wall Iheie of and enclose the twisted kuot, formed by the ascending ventricle {voi) and descending siuall in lésine (s?), togetljer wilh Ihe aiilerior poi'tion of tbe uri- nary tubes (u). The chamber thus formed by the basement- membrane may — accepting the theory of Berlese hereafter men- tioned — be termed the filler- chamber {fc). The ventricle is rather long and of large diameter and somewhat convolnted, and from its junclion with the pos- terior part of the crop (cr) bends sharply anleriorly and conti- nues alongside the crop to the anterior end thereof, where it is enlarged somewhat in diameter {ep). At its posterior end com- mences the very long small intestine (si) and from the juncti
