The CERFP is based at Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, Colorado. On order of the Governor, the unit responds to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents, assisting local, state, tribal, and federal agencies by providing capabilities to perform patient and mass-casualty decontamination, emergency medical services, and casualty search and extraction. Colorado is one of 17 states with a CERFP. Such units are federally resourced, trained, equipped, and sustained, but state-controlled. The unit is preparing for an external validation.
