Jacob's Twiglets wholegrain wheat-based snacks
Twiglets are crisp wheat-based snacks with a "distinctive knobbly shape" similar to that of a small twig, originating in the United Kingdom. The taste of Twiglets derives from the yeast extract used in its coating, and has been compared to that of Marmite. Original manufactured by Peek Freans, Twiglets are now made in Aintree by Jacob's Bakery Ltd., a subsidiary of United Biscuits. They are marketed in the United Kingdom and packaged in 25 gram, 45 gram and 150 gram bags, and in 200g tubs. Twiglets were invented by a French technical manager named Rondalin who worked for Peek Freans in the 1920s. Using the same dough that was used for the firm’s crispbread, Vitawheat, he experimented with different shapes and flavourings, and the final product was launched in time for the Christmas market in 1929.
