Brodel Collection. Dr. Wegefarth writes: The woman from whom thisspecimen was obtained is the mother of two children, theyoungest about seven years of age. Since then she has hadfive miscarriages, all of about the same age as this history of syphilis, but have started to give her iodide ofpotash, with the hope that she may give birth to a child. The external surface of the ovum is normal in appearance,but when it was opened it was found to contain a deformedembryo lying beside a very large amnion. Sections of thechorion show that its structure is somewhat hyaline and thevilli are devoid of blood-vessels. The embryo and membraneswere cut together and the sections show that the amnion isgreatly hypertrophied, folded and torn, and that the embryo
