Rains, followed bywarmer weather, compelled my father to purchase a lumber wagon, into which his effects, includingthe bobs, were loaded, anithejourney resumed. Several incidents worthy of mention occurred whileen route, the one most prominent in my memory being at Detroit, or rather on this side of the river,where my father had to repair to the custom office and transact certain business with custom officials,which took what seemed to me, boy that I was, nearly a century.
