The 2016 award from ASH went to drMM Architects for Trafalgar Place, built on the demolished Heygate Estate, which campaigners say was 'stolen from the people' and hundreds of social housing tenants and leaseholders forced to move away from central London. Southwark Council made a loss on the Heygate which they sold at one tenth of its value to the developers. They say Southwark are one of a number of London councils carrying out similar acts of 'social cleansing', replacing social housing by properties for the wealthy and overseas investors.
