He was appointed to the positionof chief justice and presided over that court of last resort in a manner whichreflected credit upon its judicial history. Pie died in 1901, at the advancedage of eighty-six years. In early manhood he married Miss ElizabethR. Shearer, a daughter of Major James Shearer, who won his title in thewar of 1812. Eight children were born of this marriage, our subject beingthe only one on the coast. Colonel Fisher pursued his education in the public schools of his nativecounty and was only fifteen years of age when he enlisted in the Fifth. ; \ r
