The summer season is fast waning and \Yhile there is little "stirring" or enough business to warrant stoclcing up, the stores are carrying larger as- sortments of cut flowers and new crop ferns, crotons and other foliage plants are seen in the windows. The feature of the market is the Ameriran Beauty rose, there being quantities of the new crop offered at reasonable prices. The quality has never been better for the season. All the tea roses are ihiprov- ,ing although some show a touch of Imildew. Bulgarie or Taft roses are looking very well. This variety will no doubt be much more plentiful this year than last. Asters are still, a fac- tor. First" quality flowers are in fair supply, while second and lower grades are far too abundant. A few new crop carnations are offered. Stems are short as yet. Dahlias are now begin- ning to assert themselves, some very good flowers being seen. These flow- ers are now one of the fall staples and can be handled with profit, there being very little waste. Orders are given the commission houses for this or that va- riety, the flowers being packed at the dahlias farms and not touched again until final deliverj'. Very few are sold except in the original packages. Golden Glow chrysanthemums are offered, very good flowers for the season. Orchids (cattleyas), a
