An officer's small-sword, Saxony(?), circa 1700 Double-edged thrusting blade of flattened hexagonal section and remnants of gilt etching on both sides showing Perseus with sword and shield between ornamental decorations. Brass hilt, cast in relief with an openwork guard plate, a flutist on the knuckle-guard, and metaphorical figures on the pommel. Brass wire grip winding. Length cm. Cf.
