We were under sail allday in very open water, a strong southwestwind making the sea quite choppy. Wekept well to our course and were makingfor Shannon Island off the northeast coastof Greenland. For two days past the water lias been of alight-green shade. This change of color isconfined to a stratum of from one to two feetin depth from the surface, and repeated testsshow it to be about a degree and a halfwarmer than the darker water below, whichindicates that it is due to unusually widelydiffused currents from the Gulf Stream.
