Summer Solstice Morris Dancers, Rushlake Green, East Sussex, England.
Summer Solstice Morris was formed in May 2000 by a group of local people from the Punnetts Town area in East Sussex. The dancers come together to dance in celebration of the Summer Solstice. The group consists of Cherry Clack garland dancers performing dances from the north west of England, mainly from Cheshire and Lancashire. The Blackdown Morris Men perform their own style of Cotswold Morris based on the Adderbury tradition from Oxfordshire. The sides take their names from the Punnetts Town windmills. Cherry Clack smock-mill originally stood at Biddenden, Kent, where its driven 'clack' was probably used to scare birds from the cherry orchards. It was moved to Punnetts Town in 1859 to replace Blackdown post-mill, which had been burnt down in the same year.
