The superheater is of the smokebox type and is in the intermediate smokebox chamber where the temperature ofthe gases is high. The superheater teehead is bolted to a cast steel box saddlecasting which in turn is bolted to the topof the boiler, and covers the opening cutthrough the sheet by which the superheat-er tubes extend down into the smokebox chamber. The tee-head is dividedtransversely into a front and a rear com-partment by means of a vertical parti-tion. There are sixteen superheater tubesbent into the shape of a double loop, one. In the design of the boiler the prob-lem of providing the required amount ofheating surface within the necessarilylimited space available has been very sat-isfactorily solved.
