Portrait of Major Stanislaw Jakub Skarzynski (1899-1942) Annotation: Skarzynsky made a successful solo flight across the Atlantic in a single-engine plane from Saint Louis in Senegal to Maceio in Brazil. After the German invasion of Poland, he became Commanding Officer of the Polish Flying Schools of the British RAF. In doing so, he actively participated in air operations over Germany. In 1942 he died in an emergency landing on the North Sea. He found his last resting place on the Dutch Wadden Island Terschelling. Warsaw.
