Recklinghausen, Castrop-Rauxel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Winter landscape, EMSCHERLAND construction project, a 37-hectare water and nature experience park at the water junction of the Rhine-Herne Canal and the renaturalized Emscher River on Recklinghausen's city border with Castrop-Rauxel. The ecological focal point at the confluence of the Suderwicher Bach (left) and the Emscher (right) will also be a garden of the future for the International Garden Exhibition 2027. Before renaturation, the Emscher river system was an open, above-ground wastewater canal, a combined sewer with surface water and wastewater. In the back, the Uniper power plant Datteln 4.
