Wells Cathedral in the Englisg county of Somerset. The present cathedral dates from about 1175 and is built in the Gothic style.


Wells cathedral was started about 1175 and took about 80 years to complete. Work started in the east and culminated in the magnificent West Front in about 1230. The cathedral is built in the the new gothic style which was brought to this country from France. It was the first English cathedral to be built in this style. The West Front still contains about 300 carved statues culminating in the 12 apostles and Christ at the pinnacle.
