Light shall be admitted from the left, orfrom the left and rear of classrooms, and thetotal light area must, unless strengthened by theuse of reflecting lenses, equal at least twenty percentum of floor space. II. Schoolhouses shall have in each class-room at least eighteen square feet of floor space,and not less than two hundred cubic feet of airspace per pupil. All school buildings shall havean approved system of ventilation by means ofwhich each classroom shall be supplied withfresh air at the rate of not less than thirty cubicfeet per minute for each pupil. III. All ceilings shall be at least twelve feetin height. 199. Mi 200 Schoolhouse Laws IV. All stairs, except cellar stairs, shall benot less than four feet in width and shall haveintermediate landings. The several flights ofstairs shall be enclosed by brick walls or bypartitions of slow burning construction, andwithout open well holes. The risers of stairsshall not exceed seven and one-half inches inheight, and the treads shall be at least ten in-ches in width, exclusive of the projecting nos-ings. V. Every schoolhouse having eight roomsshall have two flights of stairs of not less thanfour feet in width, or, in lieu thereof, one flightof stairs situated near the center of the building,not less than six feet in width. VI. Every school building having more thaneight and less than sixteen rooms, shall have twoflights of stairs not less than five feet in width. VII. Every schoolhouse having sixteen ormore rooms shall have three flights of stairs notless than four
