Hence we feelproud of the men and women who are devoting their lives to the greatwork of uplifting the human family, by first preparing the boys andgirls of our land for their real mission in life, viz. that of true citizen-ship. In this connection we are douldy proud of the teachers ofChariton County and can without any display of egotism say that theyare the equal, in intelligence and professional training, of any bandof teachers in our entire CO « WKo w HH O o ;?;o H I—I« o O o tf o PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD. 205 Since the organization of Chariton County it has been the boastof her citizens, as well as their pride, that her teachers were progress-ive and earnest in their work, and as they left her borders and foundhomes in other counties and even beyond the l)orders of their nativestate, that they invariably captured the ))est positions and took a highrank among the members of their profession. Perhaps, however thegreatest stimulus ever given the teachers of our county, has beenthrough the working of the present Institute Law. Year after yearthe successful teacher is seized with an ardent desire for better pro-fessional training and in no way can the teacher, educated in theschools of the rural districts, better secure this training than in theAnnual County Institute.
