Hodenpyle, of Locust Valley, and Hitchings & Co., New York. John Scheppers & Co., New York, d«nated $50 toward a display of Darwin tulips for next spring. The judges of the monthly exhibits were S. J. Trepess, J. Adler and W. Hutton and their awards were as fol- lows: Twelve hybrid perpetual roses, one variety, F. Honeyman, first; twelve strawberries, Henry Jones, first; vase of twelve peonies, mixed, Henry Jones, first. Honorable mention was awarded to the following: H. Gaut, for three vases of sweet peas; H. Boiettcher, for one vase of sweet peas, mixed; H. Boettcher, for vase of Aquilegia chrys- antha; W. Gray, for bunch of aspara- gus. A certificate of culture was awarded to John Scheppers & Co. for a collection of peonies. James Duthie, of Oyster Bay, read an interesting and instructive essay on '; Dahlia Culture for Exhibition, Cut- ting for Housework and Garden Decora- tion,*' which was well received, as Mr. Duthie is a past master of the art of dahlia culture. Exhibits for the July meeting, July 8, will be sweet peas, twenty-five sprays of white, pink and any other color. Henry Jones, Cor. Sec'y. Lincoln, m.—C. E. Gullett and W. J. Gullett and twenty-eight employees of the firm of Gullett & Sons sat down to a banquet at the Commercial hotel May 23 in honor of Daniel Berry, a member of the force for a number of years.
