Bass clarinetist plays during a rehearsal for CoMA's (Contemporary Music for All ) Sussex Festival Concert in the University of Chichester, 2018
CoMA (Contemporary Music for All) was established in 1993 to encourage and provide opportunities for amateur musicians of all abilities to take part in contemporary music making. The aim was to create a repertoire of contemporary music accessible to amateur players and to establish regional ensembles throughout the UK. CoMA's mission is to create a culture of musical participation and collaboration. They establish environments for amateur, emerging and acclaimed music-makers of all backgrounds and abilities to build musical communities and new repertoires. CoMA exists to share those unique experiences and practices as widely as possible across its networks, from audiences to institutions, from music education providers to professional ensembles. They run contemporary music ensembles throughout the UK, plus workshops and residencies, with an expanding international programme. CoMA ensembles carry out a range of activities including performing commissioned repertoire, improvisation and holding workshops for amateur composers.
