Each car is equipped with twostorage reservoirs 18 ins. x 78 ins. in size, one beneath eachside, for the high-pressure air storage. These are providedwith connections ending in a solid head coupling of the usualair-brake hose type, from which they are filled at the car houseair supply boxes. From these tanks air is fed through a re-ducing valve into a service reservoir, 12 ins. x 42 ins. in size, from which the supply is taken through the motormans valvein the usual manner for the brake system, which is of the. VIEW IN END OF MACHINE SHOP IN WHICH THE AI SYSTEM railway motor, provided with special armature shaft, with driv-ing pulleys upon each end, and two belts are used to drive eachcompressor, one running to either fly-wheel. The compressorsoperate at 100 r. p. m. and deliver at a pressure of 325 lbs. persquare inch. The motors are controlled by the standard K-10type of controllers, which are individually mounted near themotors, as shown. The air compressors, as well as also thebrake equipments upon the cars, were supplied by the NationalElectric Company, of Milwaukee, Wis. The station storage tanks, three in number, are located atthe rear of the compressors and set in a pit in the floor, asshown. The air passes from the high-pressuredelivery of thecompressors to the first tank, which is provided with a safetyvalve; from that tank it passes to the middle tank, and thenceto the third, from which delivery is made to the street car hosedelivery boxes for the car
