Illustration of a molecule of botulinum neurotoxin (BTX) type A. This neurotoxic protein is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species. It is also produced commercially for medical, cosmetic, and research use, where it is used in the treatment of upper motor neuron syndrome, focal hyperhidrosis, blepharospasm, strabismus, chronic migraine and bruxism. It is also widely used in cosmetic treatments, such as Botox injections.
