Judge Waste also served aspresident of the Young Mens Christian As-sociation of Berkeley, which he helped to or-ganize, and was an organizer and first presidentof the Holmes Library Association of Berkeleyto which Mr. Carnegie contributed $40,000 forthe erection of a building. In the municipalaffairs of Berkeley, Judge Waste has also takena prominent interest. In Berkeley, September 16, 1896. Judge Wastewas united in marriage with Miss Mary Ewing,a daughter of Archibald and Rowena (Taylor). Judge Waste is prominent infraternal circles, having been made a member ofthe Masonic organization in Durant Lodge,F. & A. M., of Berkeley, of which he is pastmaster, and belongs to Berkeley Chapter No. 92R. A. M.; Berkeley Commandery No. 42, K. T.;and Islam Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. He isalso a member of Peralta Camp, W. O. W., ofBerkeley; and of Berkeley Parlor, N. S. G. a member of the Methodist Episcopal Churchhe contributes liberally to all its charities, andis prominent in the Epworth League. The posi-tion held by Judge Waste in the esteem of thepeople of Berkeley has been won by merit andheld by the maintenance of the principles uponwhich his life work has been based. He is
