The attacking troops were obliged to cometo a halt in front of the cemetery (a veritable bastion with concrete casemates),and before the ruins of the mill, both of which bristled with slightly to allow of a barrage of 75s, they rushed forward againunder the protection of the latter. The site of the mill and the cemeterywere captured, together with numerous prisoners (122 were taken in onemachine-gun shelter). The ruined village was next carried in a bayonetcharge, to the sound of the bugles. The captures were considerable, onebattalion of 500 men alone taking
