Thecables are single conductors, insulated with diatrine impregnatedpaper and lead-covered, jointed by means of lead sleeves wipedon to the lead of the cables. At intervals of J-4 milethe lead covering of the cables is earthed to the rails by means ofbare copper bonds, as a preventitive agaiijst electrolysis. Three negative feeders have been carried out to different points ofthe system, and are connected to the rails through special feederboxes. Each cable bears a brass label in every box, denoting itssize, voltage and termination. The ^izos of the feeders range from Electric Transportation Within the Worlds Fair FIG. 8.—CONDUITS .\T ENTRANCE TO POWER ST.\TI0N. .1 sq. in. to .5 sq. in., the total length being over 20 miles. A com-plete system of telephone and pilot cables is also drawn into sep-arate ducts along each feeder route, and connected up in every feederand section box. All lead-covered cables terminate in the basement of the powerstation; connection being made to the switchboard with fire-rcsistingcable of Glovers latest type. In addition to the feeder cables ter-minating on the switchboard with fire-resisting cable, the wholeof the back connections and cable work in the station is also of thisdescription. All of the feeders and pilots w-ere submitted to apressure of 1,000 volts alternating current for one hour. They werethen tested for insulation resistance. N. E. L. A. Membership. At the Boston meeting of the National Electric Light Association, which was held last week, an amendment to the constitutionwas adopted dividing the membership in five classes, as follows
