United Counties Bank Ltd., Wolverhampton, late 20th cent. A photograph taken in 1910, of staff and customers at the bank in Queen Square. The gentleman in the centre is supposedly the manager. Note the all male workforce. The United Counties Bank Ltd existed between 1907 and 1916, and was the result of an amalgamation of three main Birmingham banks - Birmingham District & Counties (1889-1907), Birmingham Dudley & District (1874-1889) and Birmingham Town & District Bank (1836-1874). These three banks had themselves previously taken over eight other domestic banks. The United Counties Bank was itself eventually acquired by Barclays Bank Ltd when its head office was set up in Birmingham in 1916.
