The Great Snipe was first described as a British bird byPennant, from a specimen killed in Lancashire, preserved inthe Leveriun Museum, and was at that time considered avery rare bird: it was, however, probably undistinguished bymany from the Common Snipe, till specific distinctionsamong species were closely investigated. * Scolopa
