Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) section of the BepiColombo mission being tested in the Maxwell test chamber. Once the main door is sealed, the metal walls of the chamber form a Faraday cage, screening out external electromagnetic signals. The arrangement and shape of the tiles minimises echoes. The spacecraft's systems are then switched on to carry out electromagnetic compatibility testing to detect any harmful interference between its own systems. This test site is operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) at ESTEC (the European Space Research and Technology Centre) in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. The BepiColombo mission is scheduled for launch in October 2018. Image published on 27 January 2016.
