A tantotsutsu, Japan, late Edo - early Meiji period Percussion pistol mounted like a tanto. Round, smooth bore barrel in calibre 7 mm. Lock plate with upper hammer and a fold-out trigger, well preserved silver and gold nunome zogan in the shape of clouds and dragons. The hammer inscribed "Matsutaira Izu no Kami Gobugyo". Plain tanto koshirae in red ishime lacquer with brown stripes. The fittings worked in black lacquer, with remains of tendril decorations in gold lacquer.
