Donating stem cells from blood. Tubing used to collect blood, connected to a person in an apheresis clinic. Apheresis is the process by which blood from a donor is separated into its components by an apheresis machine (not seen). Here stem cells are being harvested. During apheresis, the required blood components are separated and retained, whilst the rest of the blood is returned to the donor. The blue device is a three-way tap that can be turned to stop or redirect the flow of blood through the tubing. This allows the connection and disconnection of different tubes when required.
