Rod and gun . ure to an ideal evening. As I paddled along I could feel my baitthrob as it spun rapidly around in thewater. At Plum Point I received all atonce one of those quick electric tugs, theunmistakable signal that I had connectedwith a beauty and I gave him line, keep-ing it gently taut all the while. He madeseveral runs to and from the canoe, swama few inches below the surface past myboat, took another run and came backfloating on the top of the water. Thistime I knapped him and took him intothe canoe. At once I started off to seek his mateand on the first turn I hooked him. Hemade a couple of beautiful somersaultsbut the line was maintained at the propertension and he could not free he ran towards the centre of theearth and sulked on the bottom, tugginggently all the time on the line, rose andmade a few flurries round the canoe andwhen moving quietly along the water Iknapped him and soon had him besidehis mate in the bottom of the canoe. I decided to visit Spruce Point and see. Result of Two Evinirii^s .md One Mornings Angling onPigeon Lake. if I could not lure Jims brute. Withsuch an object I was soon at the spot, paddled slowly on and passed the Pointwithout result. On my return trip, how-ever, zip! went the line through the wat-er and I felt it stretch in my hand sofierce was his strike. The full line wasgiven to him and when he could take nomore, two acrobatic performances a coup-le of feet above the water were made witha view of trying to rid himself of thebauble he had snapped at so viciously afew moments before. As I wished totake Jims brute home I watched myline carefully and soon checked his avi-ation tactics. Next he made some fineruns in good time away from my canoeand soon rewarded me with a free showerbath. Finally he tired, rose to the sur-face, my knapping stick descended andhe was in the canoe alongside his finnybrothers. I landed these three in less than halfan hour and as I have for a number ofyears made it a practice to start
