If she struggles duringthe stage of excitement, you may (1) grasp both wristsfirmly, and stand facing her, far enough toward the footof the table so that you may if necessary, throw yourweight across her thighs. Either of these two positions givesexcellent control. The anesthetist restrains the head. Never talk while an anesthetic is being given. It isundignified; also, a patient often hears and remembersconversation which takes place after she is apparentlyunconscious. When the patient is well under the anesthetic, helptransfer her to the operating table, or if she is alreadyin the operating-room, assist in arranging the blankets.
