In 1883 electricity for lighting and power purposes was introducedinto Worcester, the Worcester Electric Light Company, a corporationchartered to furnish electric light, heat and power in the city ofWorcester, having been organized that year. The original capital ofthe company was $100,000, and increased from time to time until itbecame, as at present, $300,000. The initial plant was near Franklin square; but in 1889 a tract ofsome 61,000 square feet on Faraday street was secured, and in the fallof that year the present exceptionally fine power-station, one of the bestin the L^nion, was MARBLE SWITCHBOARD IN ELECTRIC LIGHT STATION.
