Perhaps themost remarkable part of the collection was madeup of the works of different members of the famousPeale family of Philadelphia, three generations ofminature-painters of merit. General Washingtonis said to have given Charles Wilson Peale no fewerthan fourteen sittings for portraits, two of whichappeared in this collection.
