Portrait of Maria van Hungary on horseback. Maria van Hungary (1505-1558), younger sister by Karel V, Queen-widow of Hungary, from 1531 to 1555 regents of the Netherlands. Her husband Louis II from Hungary died in the battle of Mohacz against the Turks in 1526. The regions were dressed in black since that year with the white widow cap. She has been shown so repeatedly in bust portraits. Here she is depicted as an Amazon in travel clothing on a stage horse to the right. Top left her arm.
